Fiber-only testing
If a full 10" x 10" sample is unavailable, or if the full specs of the sample aren’t needed, ITEL can perform a fiber-only test. A small piece of fiber from a tassel or corner is sufficient. Please place the sample in a plastic baggie and mark "Fiber Only" in the comments section of the Test Request Form.
Pad-only testing
If pad or underlayment is sent to ITEL with the flooring sample, ITEL tests the pad or underlayment free-of-charge. If ITEL receives pad or underlayment without the flooring, the pad will be tested as an individual test.
Asbestos testing on vinyl flooring
If requested, ITEL will supply an analysis of your sheet or tile vinyl flooring for asbestos. For vinyl tile analysis, three random samples of the flooring are required for asbestos testing.
Flooring Quality Assurance (QA Program)
ITEL has created a program that will allow carriers to send in replacement flooring samples and have them compared to the original damaged sample benchmark price for equivalent value.
Adjusters send ITEL a sample of the replacement carpet or vinyl noting the original ITEL control number and claim number in the Comments Section of the Test Request Form. ITEL will measure all parameters of the new sample and e-mail/fax a lab report to the adjuster with a note about the value of the replacement flooring as compared to the original. If the QA sample’s ITEL benchmark price is at least 90% of the original ITEL benchmark price, the samples will be considered equivalent.
What is sent to ITEL:
- 10" X 10" carpet, laminate or wood sample or a 2" vinyl square,
- Note the original Control Number and Claim Number for the original flooring tested by ITEL in the Comments Section of the Test Request Form.
Tips:
- We strongly recommendation the QA sample be sent to ITEL within 60 days of the original test (original sample is discarded after 90 days unless otherwise requested)
- If applicable, we encourage you to send multiple samples in one package to reduce shipping costs
- Express testing is not available and the average turnaround for the reduced fee should be within 2 days of receipt.
